Sending an on-demand ride with Concierge

With Lyft Concierge, you can request an on-demand ride for someone to get them where they need to go, as soon as possible.

In this article we'll cover:

What is an on-demand ride?

An on-demand ride means that you are requesting an immediate ride for your rider. You can also pre-schedule a ride up to 30 days in advance, or send your rider a flexible ride to request their ride at their own convenience within a 24 hour window.

How to request an on-demand ride

  1. Log in to Concierge and select 'Request'
  2. Enter the passenger’s first name, last name, and phone number

If the passenger you are requesting a ride for doesn’t have a mobile phone number, include the most suitable point of contact (i.e., your department’s phone number) in the required ‘Mobile number’ field.
What is the phone number used for?
Lyft will notify the passenger via text messages to the provided phone number. The driver may call this number to coordinate the pickup, so it’s important that either the rider or an alternate can be reached at that number.
  3. Select the riders preferred language

Concierge ride coordinators can now specify the preferred language of the rider when booking a ride. In addition to English, Concierge now supports Spanish, French, and Portuguese.
    What will this look like?
When one of these languages is selected by the Concierge coordinator, the rider will receive all communications about that ride such as the driver’s ETA, a description of the car, and more in the indicated language. Note that this does not mean the rider will be matched with a Spanish, French, or Portuguese-speaking driver.
  4. Then, enter the pickup and drop-off address for the ride

If you are requesting a ride to and from a large venue or a location that doesn't have a specific address, you can pinpoint the exact spot at the location that you want the driver to meet the passenger at by dragging the map to the spot, right within Concierge!

If one of your locations is an airport or large venue, there may be options for more specific location details, like an airport terminal number.
  5. If you have specific details you’d like to share with the driver about this ride, write a message by selecting '+ Add a pickup note for the driver.' It will be sent to the driver as soon as they accept the ride
  6. Select 'Ride details' to move on to the next page of the requestScreen_Shot_2022-06-28_at_2.59.24_PM.png
  7. Select 'Today, X/X' as the pickup date in the 'Pickup date' field
  8. Select 'Now' in the 'Pickup time' field
    • For on-demand rides (when 'Now' is selected as the pickup time), coordinators will see the nearest drivers on the map and the estimated pickup time before requesting the ride
  9. Select the 'ride mode' you'd like to end for this ride — Standard Lyft (4 seats), Lyft XL (6 seats), Extra Comfort (4 seats), Lux Black (4 seats), Lux Black XL (6 seats) — from the drop-down menu.
  10. Select if you would like to include an optional tip for the driver, if enabled.
  11. In addition, you can select Wait & Save, Priority Pickup or Preferred for your riders.
    • Wait & Save is Lyft’s most affordable ride mode for non-time-sensitive rides. In exchange for your riders being willing to wait to be matched with a driver, you’ll get lower prices.
    • Priority Pickup is for riders in a hurry. For a fee, priority pickup offers riders a faster ETA than a standard ride. On average, priority pickup is $5 more expensive than a standard ride.
    • Preferred is for riders who would like a newer, more spacious car with a top-rated driver.
  12. Your company can add an internal memo to this ride for accounting or reconciliation purposes by selecting '+ Include an internal memo'
  13. When you’re ready to send the ride, select 'Request ride' and Concierge will begin to look for a driver for the ride immediately

The rider experience for on-demand rides

Learn more about the complete passenger pickup experience with Concierge rides.

  1. Once you request an on-demand ride, Lyft will start contacting drivers in the area. When a driver accepts the ride, you’ll see their name, phone number, car make and model, license plate number, plus their estimated time of arrival
  2. Riders will receive a series of SMS texts to the phone number entered that will let them know a ride has been requested, the driver and car details, and will notify them of the driver’s arrival
  3. Once the rider enters the car, the ride will officially start. You can track its status and ETA on the Concierge screen
  4. When the driver drops the rider off, the ride will be marked as 'Completed'

Cancellation Policy

The standard Lyft cancellation policy applies to on-demand rides in Concierge. You must cancel the ride within two minutes of a driver accepting the ride to avoid any cancellation fees. After two minutes, a cancellation fee will be incurred if the ride is canceled.
