If the payment card on file for your Lyft Business account fails multiple times, your account will be temporarily suspended until your overdue balance is paid for.
To let you know that your card’s been failing, you’ll see a red warning banner in your Lyft Business Portal. You must update your payment card and charge the balance with the new card to continue using your Lyft Business account.
If your organization continues to charge rides to the failing card after viewing the warning banner, your account will become temporarily suspended.
This suspension blocks members from requesting rides until the accrued overdue balance is paid. The rider will receive one of the following error messages in the app:
- For Direct Billing: "Default payment method invalid. Please update or choose a new default payment method in the app."
- For Lyft Pass: "This Lyft Pass is currently unavailable. Contact your Lyft Pass administrator for more details."

Fix the issue on the failing payment card
To fix the issue on the failing payment card, we recommend trying one or both of the following:
- Re-entering the payment card information in the Lyft Business Portal
- Calling your bank to understand if they may be blocking charges on their end
To re-enter the payment card information:
- Select Settings on the left navigation bar, then select Payments
- Choose the payment card to open the payment details page
- Select Edit Card at the top of the page
- Re-enter the payment information for the failing card, including card number, expiration date, and CVC code
- Select Save
Once you've either re-entered the payment card information or contacted your bank and resolved the issue with them, select Fix now on the warning message at the top of the Portal.
This will take you to the Payments page for the following steps:
- To retry the payment method, select Continue
- As our system verifies the payment card, the top banner will change from a warning message banner to: "Verifying payment method. This usually takes about one minute per overdue ride payment."
- Once the system verifies the payment card and the overdue balance is charged successfully, you'll see a this message: "Success! CARD XXXX is verified and paid your balance."
- If the payment card is not successful, you will need to contact your bank again or attempt to add another payment card to charge the balance
Add a brand new payment method:
- Select Fix now in the warning banner and you'll be taken to the Payments page
- Select the down arrow next to the current payment method and choose Add a payment in the dropdown menu
- In the Add new payment method box, enter the credit card number, expiration date, and CVC code. Select Save to add the new card
- The new card will now appear as the current payment method. Select Continue to initiate verification
- As our system verifies the payment card, the top banner will change from a warning message banner to: "Verifying payment method. This usually takes about one minute per overdue ride payment."
- Once the card has been verified, you'll see a success message: "Success! CARD XXXX is verified and paid your balance."
This payment method will also become the default payment method for any other Lyft Business products. Future rides will be charged to this payment card moving forward. Learn how to change payment methods for the products you use.
